Motomu Toriyama wants to remake FFVII

20 Mar 2010 by Nightmare
Recently, the gaming website Siliconera asked Motomu Toriyama (the director of Final Fantasy XIII) which game he would like to remake. He replied,

"That would be Final Fantasy VII! If we had the manpower and the time to work on a project, if we were to remake Final Fantasy VII with the quality of Final Fantasy XIII it would become a tremendous project. If we can get the number of people we need by all means that would be the one I would really want to remake."

This is good news for the fans who want a Final Fantasy VII remake. Hopefully, with the success of Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix will get enough manpower to remake this awesome game.

Square Enix hints a possible FFXIII sequel

13 Mar 2010 by Nightmare
Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama unveiled that they're planning to work on a sequel to Final Fantasy XIII if the game proves to be successful in Western countries.

"In the past three years we worked both on the world and on the various systems. Creating these systems isn't very glamorous and can frankly be a bit boring. If we could do a XIII-2, we could direct all our attention to the story and refine what we have already built."

They also said that Final Fantasy XIII's success will also determine whether there will be a Final Fantasy XV.

"We do not know if there will be a XV. This depends a lot on the success of XIII. Also, it is difficult to pinpoint elements that are typical Final Fantasy. They are mostly invisible: part of the DNA of the game, that everyone recognizes as typical Final Fantasy. But if there is a XV, I hope the way we wrote our characters carries over. We strived to create believable people of flesh and blood. They are not robots. And they are not super heroes. I hope this humanity is something we will see again."

Cloud's image on recruitment page

13 Mar 2010 by Nightmare
Square Enix is currently looking for developers to work on the next generation game engine. On the recruitment they placed an image of Cloud Strife (the hero of Final Fantasy VII), most probably as an example of the quality of graphics they're expecting.

This might lead to more rumors about a Final Fantasy VII remake, even though Square Enix already confessed that it is not working on the title and doesn't plan to do so unless it can be done within a year.

What this could really mean is that newer games will most probably have graphics like those witnessed in Advent Children.

13 Mar 2010 by Nightmare
The official Final Fantasy XIV website has been updated with additional information and media. The Intro section gives a brief description of the game, with some pictures of the landscapes underneath. The World section contains information about the story, towns, races and monsters. The gameplay section explains the different types of jobs as well as the weapons each one can equip. There is also some information on the Guildleve system and on transportation using crystals. The Media section has plenty of screenshots, and also two trailers: one from the Tokyo Game Show and another one from the E3.

The Story
Several tribes from across Hydaelyn settle in Eorzea. The deities of Eorzea, known as the Twelve, are impressed by these primitive people and so they decide to ensure their welfare. 15 years pass, and an army from the east, known as the Garlean Empire, attacks Eorzea. The strongest city, Ala Mhigo, falls in battle and loses to the Garlean Empire. The army leaves and the other nations start to prepare themselves for the next invasion.
